12 September 2025 – In Cardiff, for the Future of Journalism 2025 Conference – refreshing, inspiring, and truly thought-provoking.
I had the opportunity to present the research I co-conducted with Christina Angeli as part of the Stigma in the Media project, exploring how journalists perceive and navigate media coverage of minorities.
I am deeply grateful to the Greek journalists who participated in this research and shared their voices and experiences; it was a privilege to bring their words, concerns, and insights into this conference and to highlight how quality sourcing practices can be used to resist and challenge dominant narratives in the coverage of minorities.
And something that really spoke to my heart – taken from an insightful presentation by a colleague on journalistic working conditions but perhaps relevant to many of us: “Rather than material gain, workplace fights are most importantly about one of the deepest human emotional needs: dignity” (Jane McAlevey, 2014).
30 May 2025 – After two years of research, collaboration, and dialogue, our project STAND UP to Stigma in the Media reaches its final stage and we are delighted to invite you to our closing event on May 30, 2025. The event will bring together journalists, academics, and media professionals to reflect on how the media portray three particularly vulnerable groups in public discourse: i) Refugees and migrants, ii) LGBTQI+ individuals, iii)
People facing mental health challenges. Through presentations of research findings, discussions with journalists, and an interactive workshop, participants will explore both good and problematic practices in media representation. The aim is not only to share what we have learned but also to imagine how journalism can contribute to inclusion, understanding, and social change.
