Hi! I’m Naya Kalfeli.
Exploring ethics, representation, and journalism in a changing media world.
I am a Media Research Scientist with a PhD in Journalism, an MA in International and European Studies, and a BA in Journalism and Mass Communications.
My research lies at the intersection of media ethics, representation, and journalism studies, with a particular focus on how ethical frameworks shape the ways media portray conflicts, crises, and diversity. I am especially interested in understanding how journalistic choices, such as framing, sourcing, and narrative, influence audiences’ perceptions, emotions, and attitudes.
Currently, I am an Adjunct Lecturer at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Open University of Cyprus, where I teach courses on journalism and communication. I have over seven years of teaching and research experience across several universities, including the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Western Macedonia, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Open University of Cyprus.
I also have extensive experience in research projects. I have been a Research Fellow of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.), working on the project “Stigma in the Media: Investigating Journalists’ Perceptions and Attitudes Towards Stigmatized Minorities and Developing an Anti-Stigma Intervention”, implemented at the School of Journalism & Mass Communications of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Previously, I was a European Social Fund Research Fellow (2020–2021) in the project “Effects of Media Representations of the Immigrant and Refugee Crisis on Intergroup Perceptions and Attitudes between Greeks and Immigrants” (MediaRefugees), co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Social Fund – ESF).
Beyond my research and teaching, this website also serves as a space for reflection, where I occasionally write about professional experiences, academic life, and the ethical challenges of working in and studying media today.
